Have yourself a Green Christmas

Well now, I bet you think that I am going to get all environmental and start spouting words like global warming, conservation and hybrid. Well, no. Not that I am opposed to those things- not at all. I just don't do them. I would love a hybrid car, but not until there is one that never needs to be charged because I would forget to do that and then get stranded somewhere. Remember I am the girl who killed 4 hairdryers this year. I have helped those landfills a lot. And I'm not 100% sure about this, but something tells me that there is something in those that contributes to global warming.
But, I digress. This post is about my favorite color. Yes, very superficial of me. In my hunt for a new hairdryer, it took three tries to find one that actually dried this mane on my head. Coincidentally, the new dryer is green. I love it. I am hoping that this guy doesn't have a rather quick demise. I promised him a date with a hot curling iron if he behaved. (Ha! I totally just came up with that on the spot)
Then, yesterday Mike and Parker went out to do some Christmas shopping. You will never guess what they came home with. One of these: Oh my goodness gracious. It's a dream come true. However, I have never in my life felt more technologically retarded. I am realizing how far technology has come while I apparently stood still. I am trying to figure out how to get stuff on this little thing. I am in the process of putting the 200 or so CDs on the thing and we all know how impatient I am. I think that (in my mind) it would all just come with my type of music on it. But, no pain no gain. I am not complaining. I love the thing.
In other green news, I have a green tree, green ornaments adorning my trifle bowl in the kitchen, an adorable green cupcake ornament, and cute green christmas towels in the kitchen as well. Life is good and green. Just not the good kind of green, but that will be our little secret.

"Hello, My name is Amy...

and I am an entomophobic." Response from the group: "Hi Amy. Welcome."

Yep, that's me. Fear of insects- namely water bugs. Seeing as how it has been unseasonably warm here in GA, I have been keeping the little window in my bathroon open to circulate more air while I blowdry my hair. Well, Apparently one of those harmless bugs came in that window this morning (through a small tear in the screen). I looked up and saw it on the ceiling. My world stopped.

Now, I am not a drama queen. Not at all. (Pay no attention to the snickering of my husband or my friends in the background). BUT, this was the biggest bug I have EVER seen in my life. Oh lordy be.

I freak out. I start breathing really heavy and crying as I immediately exited the bathroom. I left the door open and all. Not smart I know, but I was afraid to make any sudden movements for the fear that the giant killer bug would fly at me. So, what does any normal person do? Why call her husband, of course (after shouting numerous expletives and running downstairs to find anything that resembles bug killer). Yep, my sweet loving husband had just sat down to have himself a low fat, low calorie turkey bacon biscuit and I called him to come kill it. Now most people are probably sitting there thinking "Are you KIDDING me?". Well my friends, I just couldn't. Seriously. After running into our bedroom to call Mike, I could not get within 10 feet of the bathroom. Crippling fear. I had a spare curling iron in the hall closet so I grabbed it so I could at least be working on making my hair presentable for work.

About 8 minutes into doing my hair, I literally heard the killer bug hit the floor of the other bathroom. I peek out the door of the bedroom and see the bug crawling down the hallway. So I grab my can of raid and spray away. (Now that I think of it, I will probably have to steam clean my carpets this weekend, but I don't care.) The bug starts dying immediately and is dragging it's back legs. Eventually, it rolls over on its back and dies. Now, I can't pick the thing because your know it could possibly still be alive.

Dum-da-da-dum!!!!!! It was at that time that the Super Hero Bug man entered the picture, hungry and parched because he left his biscuit and coffee for me, and walks over to that bug and squishes his guts out with those size 14 Bostonians of his. He used his nice work shoes-- he didn't need no stinkin spare sneaker that was laying around. And in a flash he was gone. Just like they do in those super hero movies. He came to do what was needed and took off in a flash. My hero. My husband. That was the best Christmas gift I could ever get (well except for that Ipod, but I digress) You rock baby. I love you.

This face was the last thing that bug saw before it's brains were squished out. That's the face I want to see before I leave this world (except with a smile on that face instead of the mean Mikey face).

What's in my CD player

A Beautiful Mess
by Jason Mraz
You've got the best of both worlds
You're the kind of girl who can take down a man,
And lift him back up again
You are strong but you're needy,
Humble but you're greedy
And based on your body language,
And shoddy cursive I've been reading
Your style is quite selective,
Though your mind is rather reckless
Well I guess it just suggests
That this is just what happiness is

And what a beautiful mess this is
It's like picking up trash in dresses

Well it kind of hurts when the kind of words you write
Kind of turn themselves into knives
And don't mind my nerve you could call it fiction
But I like being submerged in your contradictions dear
'Cause here we are, here we are

Although you were biased I love your advice
Your comebacks they're quick
And probably have to do with your insecurities
There's no shame in being crazy,
Depending on how you take these
Words I'm paraphrasing this relationship we're staging

And what a beautiful mess this is
It's like picking up trash in dresses

Well it kind of hurts when the kind of words you say
Kind of turn themselves into blades
And kind and courteous is a life I've heard
But it's nice to say that we played in the dirt oh dear
Cause here we are, Here we are
Here we are [x7]
We're still here
What a beautiful mess this is
It's like taking a guess when the only answer is yes

Through timeless words, and priceless pictures
We'll fly like birds, out of this earth
And times they turn, and hearts disfigure
But that's no concern when we're wounded together
And we tore our dresses, and stained our shirts
But it's nice today, oh the wait was so worth it.

LOVE Jason Mraz- Love this song.

Holly Jolly Monday

SO, what a weekend. A completely terrific weekend. I got a Christmas Bonus on Friday, had a good visit with my parents on Saturday followed by a terric meal at Prime for my firm dinner. Yesterday Mike and I got out and got our Christmas shopping down. Whew. I was really surprised that Toys R Us wasn't a complete madhouse. It seemed like all the cards fell into places this weekend. I LOVED IT. Unfortunately today I am leaving work early to have a root canal. It wasn't enough that I just spent $5000 in dental work. So, here goes another grand. But, you know what.... I feel extremely lucky that we can get this done without having to miss a mortgage payment or groceries or some other necessity just for me to get rid of this pain. We are extremely lucky and even more blessed. I want to do my "pay it forward" for the season but haven't quite figured out just where or when to do so.
I am also finishing up some christmas projects that are super fun. I want Parker and I to make paper ring garland for our little trees in the foyer and there is a gingerbread house kit with our names written all over it. This will be my first gingerbread house and I am really excited to see how it turns out.
So, lots of Christmas stuff going on. Can you believe that 10 days from today is Christmas????? Yikes! I am a lot to do to get ready but I am surprisingly calm. I just want to sit back and enjoy the time with family and friends. Bring it on- I can't wait.

Random Mumblings....

Happy Monday Everyone. Today is a good day on many levels. 1. I woke up to a clean house. My wonderful hubby really spiffy-ed up the place while I was out eating and shopping with my girlfriends. How lucky am I? 2. My house is all decorated for Christmas and the evidence of such is safely back in the shed. I think this is the most organized we have ever been with Christmas preparedness. It feels good. 3. I have a cool new brown hairdo. I love my new color. Yay- it just looks "Christmasey" (is that even a word and if it is, is it spelled correctly?). 4. I got a fantabulous new candle yesterday that just makes my house smell yummy. Anne also gave me some evergreen spray so I sprayed it on the fake tree to make it smell real. It think I went a little overboard so Mike, if you read this before you get home, be prepared for a big piney gust to blow in your face. It will get less and less as the day progresses.

So, I have been browsing at some things that I want for Christmas, not that I need them or will get htem, but it is good to have some things in my mind if I should win the lottery or find a mysterious $1,000,000 bill laying on the ground.
The first thing is something that I really, really need. Like, seriously bad. I need it so bad that I am going to get one after work (get your dirty minds out of the gutter). A hairdryer. Yep, mine broke this morning. Actually the buttong that turns the thing on and off broke. It was stuck in the on position. I had to unplug it to turn it off. Now this makes the third hairdryer that has broken on me this year. Yep. I am rough on those things. You have to remember that I spend 45 minutes on my hair EVERY SINGLE DAY. Wear it curly and sleep later is what many of you would say. Well, you obviously haven't seen this mess that is called my hair.
MOVING ON
I also want to fill my houses with artwork by Rodney White. His stuff is so great. I had his calendar last year and am getting another one this year. Not only is his work colorful and vintagy looking, he actually puts some really cool messages in the art as well.

What's better is that he is from Atlanta. I love his stuff. Seriously guys, if you haven't checked out this guys stuf, you really need to. I have even seen a few of his pieces at Target....... (wink, wink)
I am also wanting the expedit bookshelves from Ikea. I seriously need to get a better organzing system in my scrap room. BAD! I can't even take pictures in there because it is so bad. Yikes- I need help.
So anyway. A little something about nothing. Have a happy Monday. Eat a piece of chocolate.

Remember me?

Seriously guys- it is 4:53 on Saturday morning and this is the first time I have had a chance to blog in almost 2 weeks. Work has been crazy as has life in general. It doesnt help that I have become obsessed with the Vampire books, so every spare minute has become an opportunity to read.
As usual, the holidays are such a busy season. Mike and I put our tree last night. This is the big tree- I alread have 4 smaller trees up. Can you tell someone hit up the after Christmas sales last year? Once it is up, I will be happy. I dont like all of the set up. Trying to clear out the normal everyday things laying around to make space for the Christmas stuff- yeah I don't like it. But once it is all up, it is a masterpiece to behold.
As I type, I have the Britney special playing on on demand. I just heard that she is coming in concert in March and I would really like to go. Mike said that he would go to many concerts of different people I listen to, but Brit Brit would never be on that list. I might try to persuade Anne and Angie to go. Silly I know, but I didn't make it to the NKOTB concert so this would be the next big cheesefest.
Today is a "free" day for me. A day to decorate, read, scrapbook, and attempt to make some christmas ornaments.

Yeah- just a typical day around the Jacobs household.... oh wait. I must have dozed off because that will most definetly NOT happen. A girl can dream right? hee hee
Oh and those Christmas cards that I said I would get out today..... Um well....I don't even have a goos Christmas pictures done. Yeah- I hope to get them done this weekend.
Oh life..... must it always get it the way of our plans?

This will be the Best Thanksgiving Ever!!!!

Ok, so the time has come for me to be able to make a big announcement. My ex has signed over his parental rights. We can finally file a petition for Mike to adopt Parker. We are meeting with our attorney today to sign all the paperwork. I cannot tell you what a relief this is. The last 5 years have been filled with verbal and mental abuse, but I can honestly tell you that it has all been worth it. I know that sounds really crazy but, if all of that had not happened, we might not be where we are today. We can finally start a new chapter in our lives. I truly have the best husband ever- he has been there through the good and bad, tears and all. He has always stood by me and has been the one to remind me not to give up hope and tell me that it would all be ok. I would be nothing if it weren't for him.
Mike, I love you with all my heart and cannot tell you enough how happy I am that this day is finally here for you and for our family. Our Family.... gosh, it sounds so good to say that. Parker is finally all ours and you are finally, legally, the dad that you have already been to Parker over the last 3.5 years.
This will be the best Thanksgiving ever, as we have so much to be thankful for. God bless everyone who has been praying for this day. I love you all. Happy Thanksging from ourfamily to yours. :)

Totally Random

So, things here on the blog have been a bit morose over the last few weeks. This blog needs more humor. After perusing around on youtube, I found this random video that I just had to share. I don't know what the exact purpose of it is, but I can tell you that the person editing this little ditty needs to be fired. Enjoy. And don't blame me for the next 2 minutes of your life being completely wasted- you have been warned.

T minus 14 hours

So we only have to hold our breaths for about 14 more hours until I can unveil our news. Please continue to pray. I told Mike on Saturday that I had never been so ready for a weekend to be over in my life.
I am also ready for tomorrow to get here so we can get on the road to North Carolina. I love going up to see my in laws (and no I am not just saying that because they read my blog). We have such a fun time there. Good food, good times, and good fun (with a little bit of getting picked on by Papa Jack). We have the dvd player ready to go with a bunch of movies for Parker and I to watch in the backseat while our chauffeur (Mike) drives us around.
I also have the book Twilight to finish reading and I went ahead and bought the second book in the series. I am really getting into this book. Something about it is so captivating which is really odd since I normally want nothing to do with anything vampire related. I think the box office numbers from the movie release this past weekend show that this series is quite a hit. I can't wait to read the next three.
Last, but most certainly not least, I want to wish my wonderful hubby a belated Happy Birthday. I hope he had a good day reading. We met up for dinner at Cheeseburger in Paradise and went and got a pie from Coldstone Creamery. Yeah- it was all calorie free. Don't you worry. I checked it all out. Parker and I went to Hobby Lobby and while the lady was cutting our fabric Parker said "Today is my Dad's birthday- He's 23!" Ha! The lady looked at me like I was crazy when I died laughing. I told her he was 33 and she said "Oh good because you would have been really young." Hee hee.
Have a really good Thanksgiving if I don't make it back on here to post until I get back. Don't forget that the average Thanksgiving meal has 4,000 calories. Yep... 4,000!!!! Eat up!

God is so very very good

Whew- this has been one of the longest, most trying weeks I have had in a long time. But in the end, so very worth it. Many of you know about our private struggle that has been taking place over the last few weeks. WELL........ we got really good news yesterday, but in an effort to try and not jinx myself, I won't say anything else (except that it involves the two boys below). I shed enough tears yesterday at work to fill my little cubicle. Tears of joy though..... happy tears (for once).

And then last night our dog Allie woke us up around 2:30 with her barking. Now, let me pause to say that this dog isn't a barker. It is not normal for her to bark, especially in the middle of the night. Mike went downstairs to find the back door wide open. We had some really strong winds sweep through here last night and I guess the door wasn't shut completely, so it blew open. Leaves and pinecones are all over the floor now. But, we then realized that our kitty, Leia, was not in the house. Can someone say PANIC?!?!?! So we looked outside in the cold wind and, after two hours, finally came inside to make Lost Kitty flyers. It was such a cold night and so windy, I was worried she wouldn't survive. But, she was back at our door this morning. I was elated.

So, tonight is a mommy/Parker night. Mike has some work to do so we are hitting the town. Gonna go to Cheeseburger in Paradise (just what my stress induced, ever expanding waistline needs) and we have advanced purchase tickets to see the new Disney movie, Bolt. I am really excited. I love going to the movies with Parker. He is a really fun date and, after the week I have had, I thihk we are both in need for some fun.

Well, this week has definetly helped me sum up the things that I am so very thankful for this Thanksgiving. What are you thankful for?

Do you ever have those days...

when you have absolutely nothing to say. Well, today my friends is one of those days. Nothing bad, nothing good, just nothing. Kinda boring this week. I locked my keys in my car this morning when I ran into the gas station. Thank goodness MIkey was close and brought me a spare key. Where would I be without him? Well, technically, I would be in a cold parking lot, sitting around, drinking a starbucks energy drink, trying to figure what Macgyver would do in that situation. Luckily, that did not have to happen. Actually, a funny thought just popped into my head. One time I locked myself out of my old townhouse. I managed to pry the window of the back door down just a tad and use a hanger and a rubber band to retrieve the spare key off the hook on the kitchen wall. Yeah, I'm good like that.
So anyway, I'd better get back to work. Been really busy. My brain is actually having to process important information instead of the useless stuff that normally goes in. Hey, did you know that Australia have 24,000 miles of shoreline? Ok- well now you do, so go find a way to work that into a conversation today. Have a good one.

The holidays are upon us

So, this morning it just hit me, like a ton of bricks, that Thanksgiving is NEXT WEEK!!!!! Let me repeat that.... NEXT WEEK. That means that the christmas season is upon us. Oh lordy be. Wasn't it just July and we were getting ready for kindergarten to start? Wow- I am SO not ready for the shopping season.
My frequent trips to Target and such will be a thing of the past since they will now take 4 hours as complared to the normal hour I usually spend in there. Plus, I get really cranky around all those people. I hate Christmas shopping crowds. And the black Friday sales? Please... I stood in line in 1998 for a Furby and swore I would never do so again. BUT, having kids can make you do really weird things. So, a few years ago I got up early in NC and snuck out to get Parker a portable DVD player at Target on the day after Thanksgiving. I stood out in the coold blustery weather to save $20 on a DVD player. Looking back it was kinda ridiculous, but we use that DVD player all the time, so it was worth it. I would have paid full price had I known the hours upon hours of enjoyment that my child has had watching that thing on car trips (saving my sanity alone is worth full price).
So, being the crafty person that I am, I try to find as many ways as I can to make things rather than buy them. Anything to keep me away from the mall. I would rather eat liver and onions everyday for a month than make a trip to the mall. I can honestly say that I have not been to the mall since last year. I hate going- the crowds, pushing people, kids running amuck, and the obvious lack of manners. No thank you.
So, Christmas this year will be simple. Nothing fancy and very homemade. But its all good. Being together will be the best gift of all. Another gift is in the making, but I don't have confirmation on that yet. (No, I'm not pregnant.)

Meanwhile, here is a picture taken this morning at my desk. Isn't that a healthy breakfast?

Have a happy Monday.

TGIF

Yep, it's Friday boys and girls. Even though it is gray and misty outside, there are roses coming up in my little corner of the world. We had a parent teacher conference yesterday and got the news that our kid is really smart. I must say I was pleasantly surprised. Every day when he comes home, we ask him what he learned that day and the response is always "I don't know." I have noticed lately that he has been asking us to give him two number to add together. He has also gotten into writing letters. and spelling words. He seems to have taken to this Kindergarten thing pretty well. And even in the behavior department, she said that he is just your ordinary 5 year old boy. The poor woman has 11 5-year-old boys in one room. I will begin praying for her sanity. I don't know how she does it.
I am really excited about the event that Parker and I are going to tomorrow. Scrap Chic is having a kids craft day. Needless to say that Parker wasn't exactly thrilled when I told him that we were going to the scrapbook store. He has seen more scrapbooking supplies than most kids see in their lifetime. He has always been really good while doing so (except for that time at joanns that he almost lost and eyeball but we won't count that). But when I told him that HE was going to be using glue and glitter and stuff like that, he got that crazy look in his eyes. A five year old and glitter. Glad we aren't doing this at my house. So, it will be a fun mommy/Parker day.
Tonight we are going out for some steak.
I have been craving it for about two weeks now. I can not wait. On my way home I MUST stop at Target to get my new obsession: Pumpkin Spice Trail Mix. For the love...... it is so good. Run, don't walk, to Target. Even if you live 20 miles from a Target- still run. This stuff is that good.
I can't remember life without it. Well, ok I do because I just bought my first bag last week, but that is not the point. Buy the stuff. You won't be disappointed. If you are, then save the bag for me and I will get it from you.
Have a happy weekend! Take time to create something.

Procrastination no more

I admit it. I am bad about correspondence. I can talk on the phone during my time in the car and that is about it. I think I am pretty good about email as well. But letters and cards.....well, I suck. I never did Christmas cards until last year. I gave individual cards to people when I gave them their gifts, but never did a mass mailing to many many people. All of my friends are so good about it that it makes me feel kinda guilty. For a minute. They are organized and on the ball. Not me. I am thinking that my creative mind tends to make me rather unorganized and messy. Non conventional in some ways. But it works for me so, what the heck. And my friends know me and still love me just the same (Christmas card or not).
Until today.
I ordered my Christmas cards a month ago. They came in last night and I have already assembled them all. We are going to take Parker's Christmas picture this weekend. All I have to do is print address labels and stuff the pictures in and I am done. I vow to have my cards out by December 6. And I feel really good about that. I am actually on the ball for once. Now if I can just find time to pull together everything else. Mike wants to get the Christmas stuff up in the house before we leave for North Carolina in two weeks. I think he remembers last year when we were literally putting stuff out about 3 days before Christmas. Some years I am gung ho, but others I simply lack the Christmas spirit. This year will be a good year. I am feeling it. If you haven't noticed, I already have my Christmas tunes over there on the side of the blog. I was so happy to find the Hippopotamus song. Love it.
A tradition that we started last year was the "Elf on a Shelf". Santa brings Joe (the elf that Parker got to name) to our house after Thanksgiving. Joe watches Parker during the day and flies home to report to Santa every night. The next morning, Joe is in a different spot and Parker has to find him. This goes on until Christmas day and then Joe flies home for the year. Joe even went to school with Parker last year for extra encouragement. Parker has already asked about Joe this year. The challenge for us parents is to find creative places to hide him. I love watching Parker's face when he finds him. In fact, seeing Christmas through the eyes of a child is the best part of the holiday season. I love watching Parker do anything Christmas related. Last year we had the best time decorating gingerbread men. I think we might try to tackle a gingerbread house this year. Hopefully, Parker will be game to sitting in Santa's lap. Anyone that knows Parker knows that he has a fear of "Dress ups" or dressed up characters and costumes. He has been too scared to sit in Santa's lap for the last two years or so. Poor guy. I hope it gets better soon. We have told him that we can't go the Disney until his fear subsides.
For those of you who know about our current situation we are in with the ex, please pray. The papers just went out this morning and we now have to play the waiting game. I am so nervous and scared but I know that whatever happens, happens. It will all be OK no matter what.
Well, have a great day. I can't believe it is Wednesday already. Hopefully this upcoming weekend will be a little less hectic and full of fun. With my two boys, the fun abounds. I'm one lucky gal.

Parker the Stand Up Comic

(**Please pardon the reference to beer in this clip. Unfortunately, given the fact that my husband is a criminal defense attorny, he hears all about the people who drink "beer" and drive.**)

Ai yi yi

I think I was home for a total of maybe 6 hours this weekend. Busy, busy. But very good. I has my first booth this weekend at the Fall Festival at Parker's school. What a fun time. I learned some tips about what I need to do in the future and what not to do as well. For anyone reading this that I may have met this weekend, Hello. Welcome to my blog. Here are some pictures.

I also got to see Mr. Patrick yesterday afternoon. He was absolutely adorable as usual. He got baptised yesterday. Angie's mom had a beautiful party afterwards. Yummy food and good friends. I love hanging out with them. Both Angie's and Toby's family are just the sweetest people. There was a huge cake that said God Bless You Patrick, but by the time I was leaving the thing said "God Patrick". It made me giggle.

I got an idea from a christmas workshop that I am taking online. You can cover a cereal box with patterned papers, sew in some blank sheets of paper into the "spine" and make a cute little kids journal. I thought this would be perfect for Parker to take with us when we head to Jack and Katy's in a few weeks. He can draw some pictures in there that represent all the fun things we do up in NC. Using clipart from Microsoft, I created a cute little cover for the book.

I promise to take photos of the individual books that I created for the show this past weekend. I want to get a separate gallery posted of samples of my work. I will get that done this week.

So, still busy as usual, but things are good. As I have said before, being busy shows that you have a purpose. Whether it be motherly duties, household duties, work commitments, ets, you have a greater purpose. EIt is all part of a greater plan and I do not intend to buck the system.

So..

I have had some not-so-fun crap going on around me for the last few days. Lots of tears and such. Apparently, stress can lead to broken blood vessels in your eyes. I look horrid and have to wear my glasses until it heals. Yuck o. So, in an attempt to make myself laugh I have lots of options.
1. Hang out with Parker. He has become a stand up comic overnight. I often find myself laughing hysterically while listening to him tell a story. Blessings now wear crazy clothing combinations and draw with markers all over their bodies. At least mine does. I will post the Parker stand up video tonight. It is classic.
2. Watch mindless tv. I watched The Hills and Dr. 90210 last night for 3 hours. Great stuff.
3. Peruse this website: www.knockknock.biz Oh my gosh, they have some great stuff.

4. Read the Pioneer woman blog. http://thepioneerwoman.com/2008/10/bikes_manure_and_human_nature.html Funny lady on a ranch with 4 kids and a husband she calls Marlboro Man. Funny stuff, lemme tell ya.
5. Youtube-ing funny videos. Type in "I love Potatoes" in the search box and see the video that comes up. Parker and I watched that to no end. We also really like the swiffer commercials with the song "Baby Come Back" in them.
6. curling up with Mike and the couch and watching Bill Mohr. Yes, I really like that show. I know it doesn't quite line up with my views but its pretty dang good. Plus, my husband thinks it is sexy when I get intersted in politics. That's really why I watch. Hee Hee.
Gosh, just compiling lists like this makes me happy. All is well with the owrld again. Peace out.

I got nothing.

Between politics and personal stuff that is going on, I have nothing to say today.

Before I go though, I am reminded of the lyrics to a song on my South Park CD:
"The whole world's gone to hell but how are you?"- Big Gay Al

I did my civil duty....

and still managed to make it to my office meeting at 8:30. Yay me. We got in line about 6:15 and walked out at 7:30. Not too shabby. I was all set to go and enjoy a free meal at Shane's Rib Shack (courtesy of my Georgia voter sticker) until my husband informed me that it was a felony. A felony for the giver and the recipient. Leave it to attorneys to take joy out of a free chicken finger plate. I guess I had better come up with something else for dinner. So much for being a good, but hungry, voter. I really might have to risk the felony conviction and go to Starbucks for my free coffee considering I was up at the crack of dawn.

So, big news around our house is that Parker learned to ride his bike without training wheels this past weekend. He took off. He was a natural. He only crashed once. I was of course in tears at the sheer fact that my baby isn't a baby anymore. He is a tall, self-sufficient, bike riding BOY. My how five and a half years has flown by.

This weekend is the Fall Festival at Parker's school. I am trying to get all of my projects wrapped up for my table. I am getting excited. I know I need to post pictures. I am going to take plenty of photos. Augh.... the picture taking isn't my problem. It is the getting them on the computer that takes me so long. I have to get better with that.

Well, happy election day/ If you haven't already done so, get out there and vote.

This boy......

So, this morning Parker woke up bright and early. He was so excited you would have thought it was Christmas morning. This was the brief conversation that followed when I walked into his room to turn on the light.

Parker: "Hey Mom, I want you to get me this afternoon right after primetime begins, ok?"

Me: "Well Park, I will probably be there to pick you up about an hour after you get out of school."

P: "But Mom, I want to get home early" (Keep in mind that he is not trick or treating with us this year- he is going down to his dad's house-BOO!)

Me: "Well, Parker, I have to work. I will leave as early as I can to get home and meet your daddy."

P: "Mom, you need to go to Mr. Bill (my boss) and tell him that you son needs to celebrate Halloween really early."

Me: "Well, Parker I can't. Mr. Bill isn't even in the office today."

P: "Really? Well then why don't we get this party started right now!"

The kid cracks me up. How can my day be bad when that is what my day starts with?
Happy Halloween! Be safe!

Sweet niblets...

Can I just say that Life is Good? Really good. No particular reason.... just relishing in the fact that despite a bad economy, job layoffs, a crazy presidential election, falling stocks...... life is still really good. I have a happy and healthy (despite the little stomach bug) family that I love with all my heart. Despite all of the busyness, things are good. I guess it is good to be busy. It means you have a purpose. Either shuttling kids to places, going to the dr, fulfilling obligations with friends- you still have a purpose. It is nice to think about.
**insert smiling faces, rainbows, happy flowers various other cheesy happy stuff**

A few weeks ago, while standing in the pew at Veronica's wedding, I got to thinking. I promise I was paying attention but I was also trying my damndest not to cry. So, I got to thinking. Each girl in our circle has such different qualities. Some are those that are completely expected. I, for one, always cry. I can't hold back the tears. Ask Angie about her wedding.... and the massive amounts of tears that were shed. From me. All from me. Yeah, that was a memory.
Anne- she is the sweet one. The princess. Pink clouds and happy rainbows used to gather in her room in college. I hardly ever saw her unhappy and no matter what she always had that upbeat happy voice. And the tiara. She always wore her tiara. And the one thing that I love most about her is that she ends every phone call with "Love you". She makes me feel special every single time I talk to her on the phone.
Angie- is the athletic one. And the crazy one. She can make up dances like its no ones business. She can do cheerleading jumps in the middle of a Wal Mart at 2 am. She can also belt out a Barbra Streisand tune at the drop of a hat. She was my big sister in my sorority and is the closest thing that I have to a sister here on earth.
Veronica- my latino bud. I haven't told her this but I never would have guessed her to be of hispanic descent (please don't kill me if I got that wrong V) when I met her. She even kinda had a southern accent. But seeing her in her element, in Miami, was so very wonderful and funny at the same time. Never in my life have I heard an accent like that come out of such a sweet pretty girl. She can bless you up and down in spanish and turn around and smile with such a sweet innocent face. I know that if any man ever did anything to any of us girls, she would seriously kick their arse. I would be very afraid of her if she wasn't my friend. Love you V!
Shannon- I think I had to tell someone who was sitting at our table at V's wedding that we were afraid she might have Turrett's Syndrome. That girl will say anything that comes to her mind. She is so funny and animated. She also has two of the most adorable children. I swear that Luke can say anything and be adorable with that southern drawl. If you need insurance she is the one to call. Her picture is about to be all over Atlanta so it will be fun to see her on a billboard and be able to say "Hey, that girl is my friend".

It is just a funny thought how such different personalities came to be friends. These friends give you purpose. I, myself, think that I am mughty lucky that thses girls not only like me, they love me. For who I am. For the crazy qualities I possess. Just as I do for them.

It goes without saying that my husband and son give me purpose. They give me a reason to get up every morning. They give me a reason to breathe, to dream, to believe, to think, and to cherish. I have a wonderful extended family as well. They love me no matter what. Life is good. And I am so glad that I am at a place in my life where I can say that. Whew- what a ride.

Tuesday, October 28, 2008

Oh my gosh- it's Tuesday????

If it gets really quiet around here, I apologize in advance. Craziness abounds and if I still have a job on November 10, it will be a miracle. Between doctors, dentists, and halloween visitation with the ex- I am missing so much time from work. On top of it all I had to run out of the office yesterday afternoon in order to keep the Alabama police from hunting me down. I got a speeding ticket in Sept while driving back from my grandmothers. No problemo.... Mike sent in a check over two weeks ago thinking that allowed plenty of time for it to clear before my court date this morning. Well, I called yesterday and they had not received it. So, I ran all over Decatur trying to find a money order. I realized the post office did those so I could knock everything out in one fell swoop. After standing in line for 30 minutes, I was informed that even overnighting it to Dothan, AL would not work. Apparently since it was a small town it wouldn't get there until Wed afternoon (um, that is overnighting it?). So, Mike made some calls and got it all straightened out. Our friend Scott has a brother in law in Dothan and he helped take care of it. Augh.
So then this morning, I pull into the parking deck at work and get a call from Parker's teacher. Parker had gotten sick with a nasty stomach bug (I'll spare you the details) and I had to go get him. So I am now sitting at home.
I guess I will do a quick recap of the weekend. Parker had his last soccer game on Saturday. He finished the season with a whopping 31 goals. After the game, Mike and Parker went to the Little River Game Ranch. I was still kinda sick and didn't want to get worse. I stayed home and worked on books for my table at the fall festival. The rest of the weekend was somewhat uneventful. I did get the pleasure of hanging out at Scrap Chic on Sunday afternoon. It is so much fun to hang out with those girls. I got my hands on some on the new Tim Holtz seasonal grungeboard. I ran it through the sizzix in an embossing folder and it looks so good. I can't wait to spray it and distress it. It will be perfect on some christmas projects I have up my sleeve.
Here are some pics from the weekend:

World War 3 and subsequent peace talks

So yesterday morning there was a small war at my house. Over a sweatshirt. A stinking green (olive green) sweatshirt (supercute, from Gymboree, had cable knit sweater stuff around neck). 45 minutes we fought over that shirt. It finally ended in him putting the shirt on in the car while sitting in the carpool lane. Lemme tell ya, he wasn't happy about it. He let me know that by screaming "I hate you" as he got out of the car. Nice.
So all day long, I labor over the fact that I hate battles like that with my child. "Pick your battles" is a phrase I always keep at the forefront of my mind, although that wasn't an option over the sweatshirt because 1. it was really cold outside and 2. every other sweatshirt we had was way too small. Apparently someones arms grew exponentially over the summer.
So, as a mother, we face the guilt of feeling like we aren't a good parent. Much to my dismay, the hard part that I was warned of in the beginning was nothing compared to when the baby grows up and begins to walk and talk. Parenting is hard. Way harder than I could have ever guessed. But worth it. 150% worth it.
So, when I picked Parker up from school I was ready for the fighting to resume. I was braced for the worst. WHat was one of the first things out of his mouth? "Hey mom, this sweatshirt is really warm, I like it" Um, excuse me. I nearly fell over. We went home and had a good night of Mommy/Parker time. It was great. Never once did the tv get turned on. We ate cereal for dinner (don't even start), we read words on the boxes, he used the table centerpiece pumpkins to discuss bigger, smaller, shorter and taller, we read books and cuddled in bed.
One significant change in our bestime routine was made...... we laid out the clothes for the next day. Let's just say that this morning was peaceful and easy. I would say that the peace talks were sucessful.

fun stuff

Since it seems that I have had an abundance of spare time in bed over the last two months (between my jaw and this CRUD), my laptop has become my best friend. I can read blogs till the cows come home and peruse around eclectic little online shops to find stuff that I would love to buy, but never do. So, I have compiled many many favorites. And since I am a generous spirit (or just a plain bored one) I will share some finds with you.

My most favorite would be these

These little jewels are perfect for those folks who are always borrowing your pens yet never return them. "This set of 8 hilarious pens each measure 5" long, guarantee an impression and allows you to have a chuckle at someone else's expense! Pens Read: "Springfield Sexual Addiction Center," "Shecky the Clown-Bar Mitzvahs, Weddings, Interventions," "Dr. Lance Hughes, Proctology," "Electrolysis Is Us," "Van Nuys Center for Cosmetic Surgery," "Verdant Fields Nudist Camp," "Stuffed with Love Taxidermy," and "Howie's House of Hair." These can be found at patinastores.com.

As always, I love etsy. Oh etsy..... such trouble for me to get into. The sheer fact that you can search things by color is so dangerous. Anything green is always on my list. As well as anything personalized, vintage, shabby chic, or involving cupcakes- they all lead me into temptation. Oh deliver me from evil......

from The Paper Princess

perverted cupcake magnets from seller KillTaupe

Or this jewel from seller wilibleu:

And....just in case you aren't yet impressed with my totally random stuff for the day, I have the following for you:

I will let you figure out what they say....

Tough it out Tuesday

So, the crud has officially invaded my body. I am the walking epitome of that old Nyquil commercial (Sniffling, sneezing, coughing, aching, runny nose, etc.) I am convinced that dayquil is just orange jello in a little gel cap. It doesn't do a thing for me. Oh well. I gotta remember to bring a can of lysol to work tomorrow to disinfect the stinking cubicle I am in.

So, with the election quickly descending upon us, I have found some fun in the situation. Anyone who knows me knows that I hate debating politics and religion. I just don't do it. My take is that I like anyone who enjoys cupcakes and long walks in the park. No confrontation or debate on that one since I avoid confrontation at all costs. Anyways, I digress. Driving around town, I see this everywhere. Here in GA, more specifically right down the street from our house, there is apparently a guy named Mike Jacobs running for State Representative. His district ends just a few blocks from our house. I keep seeing the signs. Everytime I see them I can't help but crack up. I love it. As soon as Election day comes and goes, I am going to rip one down and permanently put it in our yard. Just to make me smile on a daily basis. To make matters worse, Mike has been getting calls concerning land disputes and zoning issues. I guess they get his number off the GA bar website. Hardy har har.

Another funny political moment came last night when Parker saw that one of his friends houses had an Obama/Biden sign in their yard. The poor little guy came home last night and asked if they could still be friends. Poor little guy. I had to explain to him that we are friends with people of every belief. Just because we may not all agree does not mean that we can't be friends. I am constantly reminded of how different the world must look through the eyes of a child. Oh I wish I could be that innocent and sweet again....

Monday Fun...

So, what a weekend. I was sick throughout most of it, but we still managed to have fun. Parker had a soccer game, we decorated for Halloween, finally found jeans for my size 6 slim boy, and went to a 5 year old's birthday party. I got one album almost done for my table at the fall festival. Guess who forgot to take their camera to any of the above events? Yep- what a great memory keeper I am.
I am hoping that we make it to the pumpkin patch this weekend with Parker. My sister in law Stephanie sent me pictures of my adorable nieces at the pumpkin patch. Caroline and Ella look like they had fun.

In other saddening news, the Boston Red Sox lost last night against the Rays. Boo Hoo. There is a definite mood change around our house when baseball season ends. We are a pretty dull bunch to be around until April. Normally we would just change gears and cheer for the Patriots, but that isn't fun anymore since Brady is out. What about the Boston Bruins or the Celtics? Is basketball season going on yet? Ha- I really have no idea. I can follow college football but we all know that Mikey isn't down with that. Seeing as how I didn't join a pick'em team this year, I am pretty disconnected from even college football. It's been a weird year.

I gotta go look at the sign up schedule for the YMCA. We are signing Parker up for Karate this winter. I have heard that this helps instill discipline into children so I am keeping my fingers (and toes) crossed that this is true. After a successful hearing test, I know that Parker has perfect hearing. He is just not choosing to utilize it when words come out of my mouth. Such is life with a 5 year old boy....

I leave you with a little funny I got from my friend Angie. It cracked me up.

Keep Hope Alive......

Twas early in the morning
Just past twelve o'clock
Mike was downstairs
Amy sleeping like a rock

When all of a sudden
there arose such a clatter
Amy jumped out of bed
to see what was the matter

She got downstairs
to see Mike all excited
For the Red Sox season
had just been requited

Seven runs in two innings
Please say it is so
The poor Rays were left
shaking their heads saying "NO!!!"

They say it could be
the greatest come back of all
Its amazing what those boys
can do with a ball

The Red Sox season
has not ended yet
And given their history
I be willing to bet

The year 2008
just might be
the year for the Red Sox
to win #3.

Little Bits of Randomness

Yesterday was a fun day. Work was good, my yummy leftovers for lunch were good, and then I got a fabulous hair cut. Much like the Katie Holmes do.

Unfortunately, the day ended with me watching the Red Sox get slaughtered. And by watching, I mean laying my head in Mike's lap, falling asleep, and then waking up to hear the unfortunate score. I am so worried that this may not be our year. Who knew the Rays would be so good?

Also, my patience is being tested this week. The kit club I belong to is a little behind and so the kits have not shipped out yet. I love the club, Polka Dot Whimsy, and I know that this delay is not their fault. I am just really excited to get my hands on some of the great stuff that is in this months kit.

I am also getting sick. My voice is quickly fading away and my throat is scratchy. I generally get laryngitis around the change of seasons, so I guess it is time. Actually, it has been awhile since it has really affected me, so I guess I am due. Anyone that knows me knows that I love to talk. This is quite an impediment if I have no voice. Oh well. I am going to be working on stuff for my table at the craft table anyways so I won't really NEED to talk.

Oh well. Have a great day and pay it forward.

Goodbye Old Friend

I am a sensitive soul. I am also one with sensitive sinuses. Many perfumes and fragrances give me terrible headaches. Either that or my electrifying personality turns the original scent into something totally stinkeriffic. So, I finally found something that was perfect. Not too heavy, not too floral-y, not too citrus-y, it was PERFECT. Brown Sugar and Fig from Bath and Body Works drew people to me like a moth to a flame (ok not really) but I did get a lot of compliments on it. And now sadly it has been discontinued. Why oh why? I am going to send a letter of anger to the good old Bath and Body Works tycoons. How dare they. Goodbye old friend. I love you (but not enough to pay three time what you were sold for, which is what you are going for on ebay). Anyone have any suggestions?

Holy Moly Monday

As if I needed further proof that I was getting older, I got another dose this weekend. Traveling wears me out. While I would like to blame it on high altitudes or some other anomoly, I have to face the fact that I am not 18 anymore. I slept a good part of the day yesterday and still feel hungover today.
But, all in all the weekend was great. The wedding was beautiful and Veronica looked great. It was so much fun traveling with Angie, Toby, Pam and little man Patrick. Angie is so blessed to have such a great baby. He is a perfect traveler and was such a little trooper.
I got home to a sick boy. Coughing, runny nose, sore throat, and a bit of a fever. Yuck. We hung out in bed yesterday and watched movies. It was fun. It gave me a little excuse to lay around. Mike had tackled most of the chores while I was gone (including my crazy messy closet) so I was very fortunate to not have to do anything yesterday. I was lazy.
In going through my stack of mail Saturday night, I was ecstatic to discover that on of my favorite stores is opening in Atlanta!!! FINALLY! This place is a dream to folks like me who love paper, stamps, and other cool stuff. And, better yet, it is opening next Saturday. Wow- what a treat. So, if anyone wants to know where I will be, you can find me down in Virginia Highlands next Sat. Yippee.
Well, I have some work to tackle since I was out on Friday, so I better get to it. Happy Monday...... here's hoping I can keep my eyes open.

My boy...

I just got a recap of this mornings soccer game. Parker got on the phone and (in a sad pitiful voice) said "Mom, it was a rough game. I got pushed on the shoulder and on the back. I got hurt. I think I need to go home and ice up" So I agreed and gave him my sympathy- this was the first time that he has ever had full contact with anyone and been pushed around. From what Mike said, it was a pretty rough team to play. Parker still managed to score 2 goals. Before I got off the phone, Parker asked Mike to talk to me again. He got back on the phone (still in that pitiful voice) said "Mom, I got a cut too." So I told him to have Mike get the bandaids out for him. I assured him that when I got home I would give him lots of TLC.
As Mike was hanging up though, I heard his little voice in the backgroud saying (loud and clear, mind you) "I wanna ride my bike this afternoon, Mikey."
Yeah, the kid is hurt and he wants to ride his bike. He SO has me milked for the fool. And I love it.

All you need is LOVE...

Wow- this has been a great trip. It was a crazy thought last night was the last "hurrah" for our group. No more weddings. However, that thought was quickly replaced by the fact that all 5 of us are in happy, wonderful relationships. It is a very cool thought.

Wow- what a beautiful wedding it was. Veronica looked magnificent- dress, hair, makeup, the look of being completely in love.... It was great. It was all so very perfect. I am so jealous that they are off to South Africa for two weeks. Wow! What an exciting trip.
I am excited to get home to my boys. It has been really weird to be away from them. I must admit, though, that I have enjoyed the silence and getting to sleep in. I feel like a princess in this big room alone. It doesn't take much to impress me.
Well, I better go and start packing. We have to check out, grab a bite to eat, drive 45 minutes to Ft. Lauderdale, and catch the plane. In 12 hours this little vacation will be over and it will be back to the daily grind. These little breaks from reality are such a nice way to refresh. Wish me luck flying. I get a little nervous everytime the plane takes off. I am sure it will all be fine. If not, I might have to get a bloody mary to calm me down. Happy saturday!

I'm going to Miami (Bienvenido a Miami)

Ooooh la la, my bags are packed. I have my laptop (since I just can't be away from internet for that long), lots of magazines, a Nicholas Sparks book, and the thought of having a hotel room all to myself. Silence. Oh my goodness, I can't tell you how nice that sounds. Being an only child, I need my silence- my alone time. I get very cranky if I don't have a little every now and then. I probably won't be in my room for too long by myself because I am going to try to sneak over to Angie's room as much as possible to see Mr. Cutie Pie Patrick.
Anne won't be with us though. My spirit has a small chip in it because I know that things will not be the same without her. We want Justin to get better though and she needs to be with him to make sure he behaves. She will be missed. I had to promise I would dance a jig though, just for her. And I will. I don't break promises.
I have some other exciting news today though. My work has yet again made it to the internet. I am so excited. If you get a chance to make it over here: http://scrapchicboutique.typepad.com/scrap_chic_boutique/ This place is the greatest. I have made such a fun group of friends there as we all have the love of all things paper related. And sticker, ribbon, buttons, glitter, pictures, and crop related. If you are ever in the Decatur area, please make sure to stop by. These girls are HILARIOUS.

Well, I will try to blog from my hotel but if not I will be home Sat. Wish me luck!
