Have yourself a Green Christmas

Well now, I bet you think that I am going to get all environmental and start spouting words like global warming, conservation and hybrid. Well, no. Not that I am opposed to those things- not at all. I just don't do them. I would love a hybrid car, but not until there is one that never needs to be charged because I would forget to do that and then get stranded somewhere. Remember I am the girl who killed 4 hairdryers this year. I have helped those landfills a lot. And I'm not 100% sure about this, but something tells me that there is something in those that contributes to global warming.
But, I digress. This post is about my favorite color. Yes, very superficial of me. In my hunt for a new hairdryer, it took three tries to find one that actually dried this mane on my head. Coincidentally, the new dryer is green. I love it. I am hoping that this guy doesn't have a rather quick demise. I promised him a date with a hot curling iron if he behaved. (Ha! I totally just came up with that on the spot)
Then, yesterday Mike and Parker went out to do some Christmas shopping. You will never guess what they came home with. One of these: Oh my goodness gracious. It's a dream come true. However, I have never in my life felt more technologically retarded. I am realizing how far technology has come while I apparently stood still. I am trying to figure out how to get stuff on this little thing. I am in the process of putting the 200 or so CDs on the thing and we all know how impatient I am. I think that (in my mind) it would all just come with my type of music on it. But, no pain no gain. I am not complaining. I love the thing.
In other green news, I have a green tree, green ornaments adorning my trifle bowl in the kitchen, an adorable green cupcake ornament, and cute green christmas towels in the kitchen as well. Life is good and green. Just not the good kind of green, but that will be our little secret.

"Hello, My name is Amy...

and I am an entomophobic." Response from the group: "Hi Amy. Welcome."

Yep, that's me. Fear of insects- namely water bugs. Seeing as how it has been unseasonably warm here in GA, I have been keeping the little window in my bathroon open to circulate more air while I blowdry my hair. Well, Apparently one of those harmless bugs came in that window this morning (through a small tear in the screen). I looked up and saw it on the ceiling. My world stopped.

Now, I am not a drama queen. Not at all. (Pay no attention to the snickering of my husband or my friends in the background). BUT, this was the biggest bug I have EVER seen in my life. Oh lordy be.

I freak out. I start breathing really heavy and crying as I immediately exited the bathroom. I left the door open and all. Not smart I know, but I was afraid to make any sudden movements for the fear that the giant killer bug would fly at me. So, what does any normal person do? Why call her husband, of course (after shouting numerous expletives and running downstairs to find anything that resembles bug killer). Yep, my sweet loving husband had just sat down to have himself a low fat, low calorie turkey bacon biscuit and I called him to come kill it. Now most people are probably sitting there thinking "Are you KIDDING me?". Well my friends, I just couldn't. Seriously. After running into our bedroom to call Mike, I could not get within 10 feet of the bathroom. Crippling fear. I had a spare curling iron in the hall closet so I grabbed it so I could at least be working on making my hair presentable for work.

About 8 minutes into doing my hair, I literally heard the killer bug hit the floor of the other bathroom. I peek out the door of the bedroom and see the bug crawling down the hallway. So I grab my can of raid and spray away. (Now that I think of it, I will probably have to steam clean my carpets this weekend, but I don't care.) The bug starts dying immediately and is dragging it's back legs. Eventually, it rolls over on its back and dies. Now, I can't pick the thing because your know it could possibly still be alive.

Dum-da-da-dum!!!!!! It was at that time that the Super Hero Bug man entered the picture, hungry and parched because he left his biscuit and coffee for me, and walks over to that bug and squishes his guts out with those size 14 Bostonians of his. He used his nice work shoes-- he didn't need no stinkin spare sneaker that was laying around. And in a flash he was gone. Just like they do in those super hero movies. He came to do what was needed and took off in a flash. My hero. My husband. That was the best Christmas gift I could ever get (well except for that Ipod, but I digress) You rock baby. I love you.

This face was the last thing that bug saw before it's brains were squished out. That's the face I want to see before I leave this world (except with a smile on that face instead of the mean Mikey face).

What's in my CD player

A Beautiful Mess
by Jason Mraz
You've got the best of both worlds
You're the kind of girl who can take down a man,
And lift him back up again
You are strong but you're needy,
Humble but you're greedy
And based on your body language,
And shoddy cursive I've been reading
Your style is quite selective,
Though your mind is rather reckless
Well I guess it just suggests
That this is just what happiness is

And what a beautiful mess this is
It's like picking up trash in dresses

Well it kind of hurts when the kind of words you write
Kind of turn themselves into knives
And don't mind my nerve you could call it fiction
But I like being submerged in your contradictions dear
'Cause here we are, here we are

Although you were biased I love your advice
Your comebacks they're quick
And probably have to do with your insecurities
There's no shame in being crazy,
Depending on how you take these
Words I'm paraphrasing this relationship we're staging

And what a beautiful mess this is
It's like picking up trash in dresses

Well it kind of hurts when the kind of words you say
Kind of turn themselves into blades
And kind and courteous is a life I've heard
But it's nice to say that we played in the dirt oh dear
Cause here we are, Here we are
Here we are [x7]
We're still here
What a beautiful mess this is
It's like taking a guess when the only answer is yes

Through timeless words, and priceless pictures
We'll fly like birds, out of this earth
And times they turn, and hearts disfigure
But that's no concern when we're wounded together
And we tore our dresses, and stained our shirts
But it's nice today, oh the wait was so worth it.

LOVE Jason Mraz- Love this song.

Holly Jolly Monday

SO, what a weekend. A completely terrific weekend. I got a Christmas Bonus on Friday, had a good visit with my parents on Saturday followed by a terric meal at Prime for my firm dinner. Yesterday Mike and I got out and got our Christmas shopping down. Whew. I was really surprised that Toys R Us wasn't a complete madhouse. It seemed like all the cards fell into places this weekend. I LOVED IT. Unfortunately today I am leaving work early to have a root canal. It wasn't enough that I just spent $5000 in dental work. So, here goes another grand. But, you know what.... I feel extremely lucky that we can get this done without having to miss a mortgage payment or groceries or some other necessity just for me to get rid of this pain. We are extremely lucky and even more blessed. I want to do my "pay it forward" for the season but haven't quite figured out just where or when to do so.
I am also finishing up some christmas projects that are super fun. I want Parker and I to make paper ring garland for our little trees in the foyer and there is a gingerbread house kit with our names written all over it. This will be my first gingerbread house and I am really excited to see how it turns out.
So, lots of Christmas stuff going on. Can you believe that 10 days from today is Christmas????? Yikes! I am a lot to do to get ready but I am surprisingly calm. I just want to sit back and enjoy the time with family and friends. Bring it on- I can't wait.

Random Mumblings....

Happy Monday Everyone. Today is a good day on many levels. 1. I woke up to a clean house. My wonderful hubby really spiffy-ed up the place while I was out eating and shopping with my girlfriends. How lucky am I? 2. My house is all decorated for Christmas and the evidence of such is safely back in the shed. I think this is the most organized we have ever been with Christmas preparedness. It feels good. 3. I have a cool new brown hairdo. I love my new color. Yay- it just looks "Christmasey" (is that even a word and if it is, is it spelled correctly?). 4. I got a fantabulous new candle yesterday that just makes my house smell yummy. Anne also gave me some evergreen spray so I sprayed it on the fake tree to make it smell real. It think I went a little overboard so Mike, if you read this before you get home, be prepared for a big piney gust to blow in your face. It will get less and less as the day progresses.

So, I have been browsing at some things that I want for Christmas, not that I need them or will get htem, but it is good to have some things in my mind if I should win the lottery or find a mysterious $1,000,000 bill laying on the ground.
The first thing is something that I really, really need. Like, seriously bad. I need it so bad that I am going to get one after work (get your dirty minds out of the gutter). A hairdryer. Yep, mine broke this morning. Actually the buttong that turns the thing on and off broke. It was stuck in the on position. I had to unplug it to turn it off. Now this makes the third hairdryer that has broken on me this year. Yep. I am rough on those things. You have to remember that I spend 45 minutes on my hair EVERY SINGLE DAY. Wear it curly and sleep later is what many of you would say. Well, you obviously haven't seen this mess that is called my hair.
MOVING ON
I also want to fill my houses with artwork by Rodney White. His stuff is so great. I had his calendar last year and am getting another one this year. Not only is his work colorful and vintagy looking, he actually puts some really cool messages in the art as well.

What's better is that he is from Atlanta. I love his stuff. Seriously guys, if you haven't checked out this guys stuf, you really need to. I have even seen a few of his pieces at Target....... (wink, wink)
I am also wanting the expedit bookshelves from Ikea. I seriously need to get a better organzing system in my scrap room. BAD! I can't even take pictures in there because it is so bad. Yikes- I need help.
So anyway. A little something about nothing. Have a happy Monday. Eat a piece of chocolate.

Remember me?

Seriously guys- it is 4:53 on Saturday morning and this is the first time I have had a chance to blog in almost 2 weeks. Work has been crazy as has life in general. It doesnt help that I have become obsessed with the Vampire books, so every spare minute has become an opportunity to read.
As usual, the holidays are such a busy season. Mike and I put our tree last night. This is the big tree- I alread have 4 smaller trees up. Can you tell someone hit up the after Christmas sales last year? Once it is up, I will be happy. I dont like all of the set up. Trying to clear out the normal everyday things laying around to make space for the Christmas stuff- yeah I don't like it. But once it is all up, it is a masterpiece to behold.
As I type, I have the Britney special playing on on demand. I just heard that she is coming in concert in March and I would really like to go. Mike said that he would go to many concerts of different people I listen to, but Brit Brit would never be on that list. I might try to persuade Anne and Angie to go. Silly I know, but I didn't make it to the NKOTB concert so this would be the next big cheesefest.
Today is a "free" day for me. A day to decorate, read, scrapbook, and attempt to make some christmas ornaments.

Yeah- just a typical day around the Jacobs household.... oh wait. I must have dozed off because that will most definetly NOT happen. A girl can dream right? hee hee
Oh and those Christmas cards that I said I would get out today..... Um well....I don't even have a goos Christmas pictures done. Yeah- I hope to get them done this weekend.
Oh life..... must it always get it the way of our plans?
